First of all please, Lord Reid, if we can look at your career history. Paragraphs 1 to 3 of the statement deal with this. I'll just summarise it. You explain that you were first elected as MP for Motherwell North constituency in 1987 and you served as an MP for 23 years until 2010.

From 1997 in government you held a number of posts, including Home Secretary, Secretary of State for Defence, Secretary of State for Health, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Leader of the House of Commons and President of the Privy Council, Chairman of the Labour Party and Cabinet Minister without portfolio, Secretary of State for Scotland, Minister for Transport and Armed Forces Minister, so a very wide variety of positions.
