"I am absolutely clear in my mind Her Majesty's Government were fully aware of the case at the time Goodman and Mulcaire were arrested. I recall discussing the case with John Reid, then Home Secretary, shortly after Goodman and Mulcaire had been arrested. This was in the margins of a meeting about broader counter terrorism issues in the immediate aftermath of the Operation Overt arrests and was of little significance other than to demonstrate that the Home Office had been informed of the arrests and the broad nature of the case that was alleged against Goodman and Mulcaire."
